Once you know who you want to take, you should be the social aggressor (so to speak) and really push the question. You're warned via push notification when the prom is coming, giving you several days to prepare. If you play your cards right and had a high relationship score prior to the prom, it's very possible that both Sims will be ready to marry the instant they age up. You can still go to the prom alone, and you'll have some social gains with other teens as a result, but flying solo will prevent you from having that very strong relationship boost. Sims do rely on relationship scores for this, so if you (like Felix) have managed to upset everyone your teen is going to school with, you'll be lacking any arm candy. Not just anyone will ask you to the prom, but if your Sim has a close relationship with another teen (especially a steady boyfriend or girlfriend), it'll be pretty easy to ask or be asked to the prom. Better still, your Sim may be the one who's asked (via pop-up box) if you don't arrange a date fast enough. Sims are non-traditional, and they don't mind a girl asking a guy to the prom. That is assuming, of course, that you actually have a date. Still, you'll have to actually attend prom to get it either way, going to prom will result in a massive relationship boost with your date. There is a bit of a contest to doing so a Prom King and Prom Queen will be chosen, and the chance your Sim gets the honor will go up if they've made a lot of friends in school (especially with the "Talk to Friends" job strategy).
